The capital city of Spain, Madrid, is one of the top travel destinations in Europe. It is easy to get to, enjoys warm weather for much of the year and has a host of great attractions to delight any visitor.
Madrid is served by the Madrid-Barajas Airport, which is located around 8 miles from the city center. Many of the airlines from Europe and further afield travel to the airport and it makes the city relatively easy to get to. Arriving visitors have the choice of a few transport links to their destination and this includes Metro trains, buses, chauffeur driven vehicles and car rental.
The city has plenty of accommodation available. This runs from a number of cheaper hostels to some luxury five star hotels. Those that travel to the city should have little trouble finding a place to stay that suits their budget. Affordable accommodation can be found in areas such as Gran Via, Chueca and Santa Ana. Those that travel to the city looking for more up-market places to stay can find these in places such as Retiro and Salamanca.
Places to see on a trip to Madrid include the Royal Palace. This is one of the most impressive buildings in the city and is filled with historic tapestries, paintings and statues. A trip to a Spanish city is not complete without relaxing in a square and the Puerta del Sol is the best to travel to in Madrid. Other things to do include a visit to the Prado Museum, a walk along the Gran Via and a Sunday visit to the open-air Rastro Flea Market. Anyone wanting to escape the bustle of city life can do so in the open spaces of the Casa de Campo park and a trip to the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia offers the chance to see some of Spain’s most famous artwork.
The many highlights of Madrid make it a great place to visit. Anyone that gets the chance to travel there should take the opportunity to do so and enjoy one of the best cities in Europe.
